Backstory:

Eventually she started hanging out with a much more questionable crowd, led by a charismatic ditto named Nikki, or as she was more often known, Roman, the nickname she earned due to her often ruthless tactics she unleashed on any who stood up to her or attempted to hurt her gang members (like the fabled Romans of legend, specifically the gladiators). The crowd was more dangerous than your typical teenage rabble, although there were many occasions of hosting wild parties in abandoned (or sometimes still inhabited) buildings. They were also accomplished thieves and on occasion, hitmen. Despite Nikki's frequent emotionally abusive comments towards her (and all her other members), Marina looked up to Nikki for her leadership and quick wits, as well as having sexual feelings for her (nothing romantic though). These feelings were definitely returned, as Nikki was quite involved with all her female gang members. Nikki quickly took notice of Marina's agility and skill at stealing from hard to reach places, as well as her brutal fighting skills. This led to her becoming Nikki's personal favourite among the gang members, although this didn't mean she got too much special treatment. Rules were still rules, and Nikki enforced them no matter the breaker's position.

Marina was quite content working with the gang until the fateful night she got captured. It was only a simple robbery, but somehow she found herself unable to escape like the others before the police showed up. For the first few days in jail she was calm and collected, sure that the gang would come to break her out soon. When a week or so passed and that still didn't happen Marina began to panic, and panic soon turned to quiet rage. A few weeks later she managed to break out of jail on her own and stormed straight back to the hideout to confront Nikki. Other gang members claimed to have heard intense arguing and seen silhouettes of waving arms through the window curtain. Why hadn't Nikki come to get her when she could have just shapeshifted into one of the guards? Was she supposed to just sit around and rot? They were supposed to be a group! Nikki claimed that it was a test. How could she rely on a member if they couldn't even get out once they were caught?

Nikki quickly became fed up with Marina's disagreement with her and the fight grew from heated debate to a physical fight. Shapeshifting into Marina's form, the monferno was forced to fight herself, leading to Nikki biting her half her ear off with her own teeth. Despite Marina's prowess, Nikki was an even more skilled fighter, and called for the other gang members to restrain the now-defeated Marina. It wasn't enough to break someone physically. They needed to be broken psychologically as well.

Marina was forced to watch as her mirror copy spat all kinds of emotional torture at her, from claiming her parents hated her to naming every flaw about herself. Eventually her eyes were held open so she could watch her face burn and then melt in front of her, producing all kinds of horrifying images that haunt her to this day. Once released she stumbled from the premises and then ended up having a panic attack a few blocks away. Once she had managed to recover, she decided to skip town and find a place where the cops wouldn't catch her for past crimes.

Along the way she ended up finding (stealing) a book about pacifism, which she now carries with her at all times.

Upon arriving in Espoir she simply wants to turn over a new leaf and spend her life helping others instead of harming them. Now a pacifist, she won't fight physically unless absolutely forced, although she still has a sharp tongue. She will do just about anything someone asks to make those she meets happy (even wiling to break certain laws, as long as she can do so without hurting anyone badly ex. breaking into a building without having to fight someone) although if she senses things are going too far she'll stand up to the person and refuse to do their bidding. She loves to joke around and tease others, always trying to put a smile on their face. Despite her intimidating appearance, she really is a sweetheart and is trying her best to break her lingering bad habits, although she still tends to blur the difference between right and wrong. (Ex. there's a book you really want but can't afford, she may steal it for you because she wants you to be happy, although that also causes trouble for the store owner.)



Extra:

Has a severe fear of mirrors that distort your appearance (ex. Fun House of Mirrors) due to the trauma she experienced by Nikki. Seeing her face distorted in such a way may drive her into a panic.

She's got a really hot Spanish accent
